We Share the Same Air is an automated sculpture by Fiona McDonald exploring the ecological and atmospheric significance of peatlands as living, breathing systems. Three transparent chambers, two housing living sphagnum moss and one containing bare peat, are opened and sealed by a robotic arm that records fluctuating CO₂ levels, visualising both carbon capture and release. The installation turns the gallery atmosphere itself into part of the artwork, where visitors’ breath becomes data, linking human presence to environmental processes.
