The Exquisite Inevitable is an immersive, sensory-driven installation that transforms a gallery space into a post-human environment where nature reclaims domestic artifacts. Originally conceived as a film set for the artist’s urban folk horror feature, ANTON, the installation features fabricated trees rooted in a moss and dirt forest floor, overtaking objects like a record player and a lounger. The space is filled with scents extracted from natural materials—mushrooms, bark, moss, leaves, seed pods, acorns, and dirt—creating a heady atmosphere of decay and new growth. Visitors navigate through disintegrating rugs and hanging vines, encountering ritualistic artifacts and hybrid skulls, all contributing to a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and artifice.
