Inspired by Jan Brueghel the Elder’s 1618 painting, this exhibition features two main works: Sweet Barrier Reef, a coral installation crafted from sugar highlighting the detrimental effects of sugarcane farming on the Great Barrier Reef, and Still Life: The Food Bowl, a banquet table sculpted from Murray River salt, addressing the environmental consequences of salinity in Australia’s agricultural heartland. Both pieces use edible materials to critique the environmental costs of human indulgence and excess.
