Recursive Environments explores the increasingly blurred boundaries between natural and digital environments. Using photogrammetry to construct virtual forests, the work embeds excerpts from Michael Heim’s The Metaphysics of Virtual Reality directly into the image data from which these environments are built. Displayed on screens supported by concrete blocks and surrounded by creeping ivy, the installation draws connections between physical nature and our growing immersion in digital space. Through this collision of organic, industrial and virtual materials, Recursive Environments considers how technology has become embedded in everyday life, and how our perception of nature and reality is changing in response.
