LUMI

LUMI is a compelling video essay by Abelardo Gil‑Fournier and Jussi Parikka, enriched with sound design by María Andueza Olmedo. It explores planetary luminosity, the reflective properties of snow and ice, and environmental memory through archival photographs. Employing an imaginary synthetic intelligence, the film reinterprets historical imagery to recompose future landscapes—as part of a speculative climate restoration process. Central to the narrative is the albedo effect, spotlighting the critical role of surface reflectance in melting ice and climate dynamics. LUMI serves as both an aesthetic meditation and a visual database tracing the reversal of time and remaking of frozen terrains.
