Imagine Water

Imagine Water was a participatory ceremony on Water and land between Gröndal and Liljeholmen.

The project activates the water and creates a physical and metaphorical platform to discuss ownership, our physical and emotional connections to the public space, and the complex ecologies it consists of.

Mapping through Water is an ongoing thought process with and through water with impact on the industrial site Lövholmen in Stockholm in June 2023 with the project Imagine Water.

There, we held a two-hour participatory ceremony with a procession by boat from Gröndal on Mälaren to the Pontoon at Liljeholmen.
On the Pontoon, we had a tea ceremony with a silent listening session, read a text about mapping through water and reflected together as a group on our different connections to water and public space through our bodies.

The ceremony took place on a large ph-indicative textile. The textile changes color depending on the pH in the river, and our actions are left as an imprint on it. The procession ended with a slow, quiet listening walk through Lövholmen.

Through the materiality of our bodies, including the textile dyed with the water from the river, as one body, we want to map what arises from spending more extended time in an area together, both on land and again in the water, and absorb what the water and the place contain.
