Athfhás (meaning “regrowth” in Irish)

Athfhás (meaning “regrowth” in Irish) is an interactive map-artwork that documents both environmental and linguistic erosion—tracing colonial language loss, deforestation, and displaced local knowledge. Through its cut-out photographic elements, the piece invites walkers to engage in “live collage” while immersed in the natural landscape, connecting memory, environment, and place. By encouraging reflection on the lifespan of mountains and trees, it acts as a speculative tool for ecological and cultural healing. The work blends environmental data with embodied experience, proposing a future rooted in regrowth, reclamation, and reconnection with suppressed knowledges.
