Aquanauts: The Expedition is a critically acclaimed multisensory exhibition that delves into a fictional narrative of the discovery of Homo aquatis, a mysterious aquatic humanoid species. The exhibition is presented as a “mockumentary,” featuring life-size sculptures, drawings, scent installations, and diary entries that immerse visitors in the story of two 19th-century scientists, Beata Gardelius and Inga-Lisa Blomgren, who vanished during an expedition to the Siljan Ring in 1897. Through the use of olfactory scenography, designed by Karolina Stockhaus, and evocative visual elements, the exhibition challenges perceptions of reality and invites reflection on humanity’s relationship with nature and the unknown.
